OMS' NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (3654) training course in Leicester leads to the City & Guilds NVQ Level 5 Diploma, the premier vocational qualification, designed for Health and Safety Professionals wishing to obtain Chartered status of IOSH (CMIOSH). This is a work-based qualification suitable for those already in a health and safety management role, which recognises a person's competence using on the job performance for assessment, rather than relying on examinations (the NVQ has replaced the Occupational Health and Safety NVQ Level 4).
Who should attend
The course is intended for people that want to forge a career in health and safety – for example as a health and safety advisor, manager or consultant. The qualification meets the academic requirements for Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). With further experience and initial professional development (IPD), Chartered Safety Practitioner (CMIOSH) status can then be attained.
Entry requirements
Candidates with limited knowledge, experience or qualifications in the Health and Safety field may be considered to be suitable for this qualification if they have the opportunity or potential to produce the required evidence and are also willing to undertake further training. Interested candidates may seek advice from one of our qualified NVQ assessors regarding their suitability for this qualification. You must be 19 years of age or older.
Knowledge and experience requirements
As a Health and Safety manager you will be expected to prove that you are operating a comprehensive Health and Safety management system that encompasses all aspects of your company’s undertakings and involves relevant employees at all levels. You must also prove that you possess the relevant underpinning health and safety knowledge to satisfy the required standards.
Initial assessment and induction
An initial assessment of each candidate is required before the start of your programme to identify:
- If you have any specific training needs
- Support and guidance you may need when working towards your qualification
- Any units you have already completed, or existing credits you have accumulated which is relevant to the qualification.
We require every candidate to complete the Self Assessment and Personal Action Plan before proceeding with this qualification. When you have completed the form you will have identified any training that you need in order to complete all of the units. If your job involves all of the required units, you are competent in all areas and evidence is easy to provide, you are ready to start your NVQ. If there are any training needs, you need to develop a plan with your manager to gain competence in the area(s) before attempting the unit(s). Please contact us if you require further advice in this area.
